The BIG PIC is an educational web based resource which aims to put the 'intelligence' in the children rather than in the technology. The website is designed specifically for young people living in Northern Ireland, providing opportunities for them to explore global issues specific to their local setting.
BIG PIC Aims
- To give young people the opportunity to think about, express opinion & debate global citizenship issues with others in both the national and international setting.
- To support teachers in their delivery of the Citizenship Curriculum at Post Primary level and the World Around Us and Personal Development strands of the Primary curriculum as outlined by CCEA.
- To be fun for all those who stumble across it!
Key Stages
The BIG PIC has been designed for Key Stages 2 and 3.
The Key Stage 3 content is based on the 4 themes of the Local and Global Citizenship Curriculum as outlined by CCEA:
- Diversity and Innclusion
- Equality and Social Responsibility
- Democracy and Active Participation
- Human Rights and Social Responsibility
The Key Stage 2 content follows the above themes, however the material is consistently related to the Personal Development and the World Around Us strands.

CPD and ITE
The Training and Resource Officer provides CPD for schools and Training Workshops for ITE Institutions. This allows teachers and students to consolidate their skills and awareness of global issues by gaining up-to-date information, resources and teaching methodologies for incorporating Global Education within their subject/department/school. Ultimately, the key question remains 'What works in the classroom?'.
For further information on CPD please telephone the Centre for Global Education on 028 9024 1879.
